Chronic Lower Respiratory Diseases
Hey, guys obviously you have come from my post- Common diseases in US. IF you are not then that does not matter. In this post, I’m going to discuss Chronic Lower Respiratory Diseases(CLRD), Their Types, Causes, and cure. We will also see their preventions.
CLRD is responsible for 5.9 percent of deaths in the United States, Only this disease takes 152,657 people’s life per year in the country. ( Source )
What is CLRD?
Chronic lower respiratory disease is a serious illness that is affecting millions of people. It directly affects the lungs.
There are three major types:-
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
It encompasses chronic obstructive pulmonary disease which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis as well as asthma, pulmonary hypertension, and occupational lung diseases. This type of disease is very common in smokers.
Smoking is the major cause of these diseases there is 80 percent of cases of CLDR are smokers. An increase in global pollutants also leads to this critical disease, Air pollutants take the same place for non-smoker patients. And some peoples also have genetic factors. Respiratory infections are also responsible for chronic lower respiratory diseases.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
It is also called COPD is a group of diseases that includes Emphysema and Chronic bronchitis. Many people with COPD have both of these conditions. Emphysema slowly-slowly destroys all the air sacs present in the lungs, which result in outward airflow. Bronchitis causes inflammation and narrowing of the bronchial tubes, which leads to the building of mucus.
Early symptoms of COPD
Early symptoms of COPD are pretty much similar to the common cold first confirm that it is COPD.
- Sometimes shortness in breadth especially after exercise.
- Messed throat every time especially in moring after asleep.
- Mild but recurrent cough.
Worsen symptoms of COPD
As far the diseases continue the condition goes worse and is hard to ignore. As they directly attack your lungs, lungs become more damaged.
- wheezing, This is a type of higher-pitched noisy breathing, especially during exhalations
- Chronic cough with or without mucus
- Need to clear mucus from your lungs every day
- shortness of breath, after even mild forms of exercise like walking up a flight of stairs
- Lack of energy in body tiredness
- frequent colds, flu, or other respiratory infections
And some times it also includes:-
- swelling of the feet, ankles, or legs
- weight loss
Emphysema is a type of disease that affects the lungs. It mostly attacks mostly that person who is addicted to smoking and sometimes who regularly breathes in impure air(pollutants, dust, Sulpher dioxide, etc.).
It destroys the alveoli which are also called air sacs of the lungs. Due to weak and broken alveoli, the surface area of the lungs decreases that’s why a good amount of oxygen can not reach the blood and this makes breathing difficult especially during exercise.
Symptoms of Emphysema
Some of the first signs of emphysema are shortness of breath and coughing especially during physical activity. This continues to worsen.
- weight lose
Asthma is an inflammatory disease. This makes breathing very difficult and makes physical activity nearly impossible.
When we breadth normally, We inhale an amount of air (mixture of oxygen, nitrogen, and other gases). Air goes through our nose and mouth, down into our throat, and goes into lungs. There are a number of passages in our lungs that extract oxygen from the air and deliver it to the blood. Asthma occurs when the inner lining of the passages swells and is filled with mucus that reduces the amount of oxygen in the blood.
Symptoms of Asthma
The most common symptom of asthma is wheezing(This is a type of sound like squealing or whistling during breathing)
- Trouble sleeping
- Frequent infections
- Rapid breathing
- Chest pain
- Anxiousness or panic
- Difficult talking
- Shortness of breath
- Tightness in the chest
- Coughing, especially at night, when laughing, or during exercise
